Empty Nest Full of Warmth
We were so inspired by the art in the home of these empty nesters, whose collection includes pieces from the couple’s travels over the years as well as paintings by her mother. They brought in City to Suburb to design the front room of their Millburn home, which doubles as the Foyer and Living Room. We tackled the tricky layout to make it more welcoming and functional. A warm palette and midcentury vibe flow perfectly with other areas of the home and give you the coziest feeling from the moment you walk in the door. A custom radiator cover is a work of art on one side of the room, giving a peek at the original restored metalwork through the custom walnut and travertine console table. Gorgeous wallcovering updates the original bookcases flanking the fireplace at the other end. Overall, the space is modernized while respecting the character and beauty of the original home.
“We hired Julia to redecorate our dated living room to match the rest of our renovated house. She solved the room’s challenges brilliantly. She created more cohesive seating than we thought possible and turned our 1920’s radiator into a magnificent walnut and sandstone topped console table. Her attention to detail, furniture, fabric and carpet selections created a space we will enjoy for many years. She was lovely to work with and understood our style.”
